Every sign of the zodiac is the opposite of 5 other signs.  The signs from Aries to Virgo  betoken the more personal or microcosmic world, in comparison to their opposites, 7 signs away (countin the sign, itself).  For example, Aries betokens "I, myself", while the 7th sign, Libra, betokens "myself in context of a relationship".

My astrology teacher, Bill Anglin, taught me that each sign wants to get away from whatever is betokened by the sign before it.  Thus, Libra betokens good manners, and Scorpio wants to get away from good manners.  In that sense, each sign is the opposite to the sign that is before it, and the one that is after it.

All the horoscope signs have an opposite nature to the sign that is 6 signs away (countin the sign, itself).   At the same time, they appear to be similar.  Thus, Aquarius and Virgo can both appear to be detached, helpful, and mental.   But what is opposite about them, Aquarius wants to socialize, maybe to argue, while Virgo wants to work.

Each sign is 6 signs away from 2 other signs.

Signs, that are 7 signs apart, also betoken same thins, only one is closer and more personal, while the opposite is broader and more inclusive.  For example, Cancer betokens "we", meanin the household, the family.  Capricorn is another type of "we", but bigger, the family in a larger context - the race.

So, the opposite signs are always similar, but opposite.  What is opposite about them, Cancer betokens "feelings" while Capricorn deals with whatever can be decided without reference to feelings.
